The conference banquet will take place on board the Raddampfer Freya, a historic paddle steamer.

Tours

The tours will run concurrently, so participants can choose to join only one. Spaces are limited for each tour and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. The available options are:

Haithabu Viking Museum – Guided tour of the reconstructed Viking settlement in Haithabu. Explore the reconstructed houses, workshops, and living areas. The tour provides an exciting glimpse into the everyday life of Vikings 1,000 years ago, highlighting different building techniques and furnishings.

Transport to and from the museum will be provided.

Molfsee Open-Air Museum – Guided tour of the State Museum for Ethnology showcasing historic rural buildings and folk culture in northern Germany. Learn about life and work in the countryside from the 17th to the 20th century, with a focus on the variety of house types typical of Schleswig-Holstein, including the Probstei, the Elbe marshes, and North Frisia.

Transport to and from the museum will be provided.

Landscape Park Arche Warder – Guided tour of Europe’s largest conservation park for rare and endangered domestic animal breeds. Visitors can see unique breeds such as White Park cattle, Turopolje pigs, the Poitou giant donkey, Exmoor ponies, and many others whose roots reach back centuries. Arche Warder is also a living museum where visitors can touch and interact with the animals.

Transport to and from the museum will be provided.

Botanical Garden Kiel – Guided tour of the the Christian Albrecht University of Kiel’s botanical garden, featuring diverse plant collections from around the world, including the iconic butter tree. The tour also includes the seasonal exhibition of living butterflies.

The botanical garden is approximately 20 minutes on foot from the venue or 8 minutes by public transport, so transport will not be provided.
