Moffitt’s Evolutionary Tumor Board

Thursday, May 26th at 12pm EDT/18:00 CEST

pictures of Damon Reed, Christine Chung, Joel Brown, and Mark Robertson-TessiJoin us for a conversation on applying evolutionary theory to clinical practice in cancer with Damon ReedChristine ChungJoel Brown, and Mark Robertson-Tessi of the Moffitt Cancer Center. Moffitt has implemented a multidisciplinary Evolutionary Tumor Board protocol, NCT04343365, to explore evolutionary strategies for cancer care for enrolled patients. Consented patients are discussed by their oncologist and a team of mathematical modellers, ecologists, basic scientists, in addition to multidisciplinary oncologists (radiation, surgery), radiologists and pathologists to derive novel strategies for care. Past therapies and response along with conventional strategies are considered and novel dosing or scheduling strategies are considered in a real world context. Ideas generated are then tracked from ETB through Oncologist to patient and to implementation as patients and outcome are followed over time with serial radiologic, clinical, and biomarker assessments.

Attendees are encouraged to read Gatenby and Brown 2020, “Integrating evolutionary dynamics into cancer therapy” and Reed et al. 2020, “An evolutionary framework for treating pediatric sarcomas.” Sign up here for the meeting link.
